It's not thin wood and so far none of the paint wants to rub off. It does require an older sibling or parent to follow the layout to assemble track. I am grateful a layout was included. It is not as big as I thought it would be for the number of pieces and picture. Still, it's not plastic which is nice.

My toddler daughter recently went to a train birthday party & came back a train obsessed monster. I had no idea she would be so interested in trains. Sturdy and easy to use

My two year old granddaughter can put the pieces together easily and was very intrigued with the magnetic attachments. Somewhat frustrating for her to figure out the polar opposite side that repels rather than attached. I only set out a portion of the pieces since 40 is overwhelming for her age.
