Paper Shredders

Every office, including home offices, needs a paper shredder. These handy devices make it easy to keep your personal information secure. Shred any documents with sensitive information including social security numbers, tax information, passwords, financial information and medical information.

Types of Shredders

Sam’s Club offers a variety of shredders. There are a few features that set shredders apart from one another.

Number of Sheets to Shred

Take a look at the number of sheets of paper your shredder can handle at one time. Even a basic shredder can handle about ten sheets, which is probably fine for most people.

Capacity of Bin

If your office shreds paper regularly, consider the bin size. Smaller shredders have bin sizes around 6 gallons and larger ones go up to about 16 gallons. The larger the bin, the less frequently it will need to be emptied.

Number of Users

For personal use, a shredder for one person is just fine. If you have an office and more than one person uses the shredder, look for one that accommodate up to 5 people.

Safety Features

Since shredders have blades, it’s a good idea to check the safety features of the shredder you’re purchasing. They tend to have safeguards to make sure that the motor stops if hands come too close to the blades.

Jam Prevention

Putting too many pieces of paper into a shredder can cause it to jam. Some shredders have jam prevention features to make this less likely. For the most part, if you follow the instructions, you shouldn’t have too many paper jams.

Shredder Maintenance

Shredder oil keeps the moving parts of your shredder lubricated and working well. Keep some shredder oil handy and use it each time to you empty the basket for best results.
