How to Buy Roses in Bulk
Roses are among the world's most celebrated and best-loved flower varieties. From the ancient mythology of the creation of the rose by the Greek goddess Chloris to commemorate a dead nymph and the association of red roses with love after the Greek goddess Artemis encounters a thorn just as she loses her lover Adonis, the Queen of Flowers has a long and rich history.
Buying roses in bulk makes sense for many reasons, not least of which are price and availability. A dozen roses can cost $50 or more at a florist, and prices can rise dramatically when demand is high around Valentine's Day.
Buying pink roses or white roses in bulk means major cost savings. If you're interested in buying roses in bulk for special occasions, they are available at members-only prices at Sam's Club. Free shipping is included. Our bulk roses are available in lots ranging from 36 to 125.
A Few Things You Should Know About Bulk Roses
Roses are shipped in bud form rather than in bloom. Once roses are hydrated, their blooms will open. Don't worry if your flowers look a little sleepy on arrival. Unpack them but leave them in the corrugated wrap while rehydrating them for an hour or two. Then take the wrap off, fill a vase with fresh, cool water and add flower food if you have it.
Make a clean cut with a sharp knife or scissors. Take at least half an inch off the end of each stem. Since roses are shipped fresh from their farms, they will have both thorns and guard petals. Remove both before starting to arrange your flowers. Make sure there are no leaves below water level. Leaves will rot in water and the bacteria that form will shorten your roses' lifespan.
Keep your rose bouquet out of direct sunlight in a cool location. Change their water and re-cut the stems every three days.
Roses should last at least a week with proper care. How long they last depends on how long they're out of water, how often the water is changed, and how often they're trimmed and fed.
Choosing the Right Roses to Buy in Bulk
Over the centuries, different shades of roses have come to signify different expressions of meaning. Red symbolizes true love, white roses innocence or purity. Yellow signifies friendship, while orange or salmon roses are thought to convey passion and excitement. Pink light pink, and peach-colored roses are generally considered expressions of gratitude or admiration.
During the War of the Roses in England, red roses were worn by the House of Lancaster, white by the House of York. When Henry Tudor became Henry VII, the Tudor Rose was created as a symbol of the merger of the two branches of the English Royal Family that had fought for power for decades. A combination of red garden roses and white roses is not only beautiful—it sends a powerful message of pure love.
So how do you decide what rose color to choose when buying in bulk for Valentine's day or for your wedding flowers? Here are some suggestions on how to choose the right rose for the right person and the right occasion.
How to Find Roses for Every Occasion
The traditional symbol for love and romance, red roses are the perfect choice for your beloved. They tend to be used for Valentine's Day, proposals and engagements rather than weddings, where white roses are far more common. As symbols of innocence and purity, white roses also represent beginnings.
But that doesn't mean you can't break with tradition. Some brides and grooms are choosing yellow roses or orange roses for their wedding flowers to symbolize the fact that their lifelong partnership is based on friendship and the joy it brings.
If you're celebrating the birth of a child or an anniversary, light pink or peach spray roses may be the right choice to express gratitude, appreciation, and convey thanks.
When you want to express your gratitude for your mother's grace and care and let her know how much you admire her, pink or peach roses are considered appropriate. Cream roses indicate charm and thoughtfulness, so a combination of pink and cream bulk roses could be the perfect choice for your parents' 35th wedding anniversary party.
If you're celebrating other family members' success, the yellow rose of friendship acknowledges a different kind of love and appreciation, perfect for the party you've organized to celebrate your little sister graduating from college or starting her own company.
At the very beginning of a relationship, orange, salmon or lavender roses convey passion and excitement.
