About Snyder of Berlin
The founder, Edward Snyder I, started making his original recipe chips after the Civil War. He originally was a brick manufacturer. Upon tasting some potato chips at a hotel while traveling, he decided to go into the potato chip business, frying them up at home and selling them to neighbors. The family business grew into Snyder of Berlin in 1944, when a factory was built in Berlin that was practically a mirror image of the original in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
