Vanilla beans are grown by local farmers, cured and extracted all in one region—Kilamanjaro, Tanzania. The ice cream is crafted using these premium vanilla beans along with a sophisticated French cooking technique, which is a low-and-slow process traditionally used to make Crème Anglaise. If you didn't think that was enough, the ice cream is aged to perfection then folded into a beautiful, decadent treat. And that's how this ice cream gets its creamy, smooth consistency and bright color.
Our team hopped on a flight to Kilamanjaro to meet our supplier partner who started a vanilla business—one that served the needs of local farmers and provided an unparalleled level of formalized training throughout the entire process. This included agronomists to train the farmers, a collaborative "farmer mentorship model," vanilla pod curing services, a laboratory and a vanilla extraction factory.
