Are M&M's Made with Real Milk Chocolate?

Yes, M&M's Milk Chocolate, King Size are made with real milk chocolate. Forrest Mars, Sr. discovered the idea for the milk chocolate candy during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s. Mars Sr. saw British soldiers snacking on candies that had milk chocolate covered in hard, candy coatings to prevent the chocolate from melting. In 1941, Mars Sr. received a patent for his own version of the candy-coated milk chocolate candy and began production. Mars Sr. made an arrangement with Hershey Chocolate® to allow the candies to use their milk chocolate, as Hershey had control of the rationed supplies of chocolate during the Second World War. The U.S. Army provided Mars Sr. with his first big customer as they needed a milk chocolate candy that wouldn't melt in tropical climates. In fact, the candy was exclusively sold to the U.S. Army during World War II.

Are These Good for Sharing?

M&M's Milk Chocolate, King Size candies come in a larger, sharing size pack to make them very suitable for sharing or for any individuals with rather large hands who struggle to snack from the smaller sized packages.

The Trademark "M"

M&M milk chocolate candies first received their iconic "M" imprinted on their candy coating in 1950. The original imprinted "M" was in black coloring but was soon changed to white by 1954. By the 1980s, M&M milk chocolate and peanut varieties were released worldwide in countries like Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and more. Towards the late 1980s, M&M's began to release holiday-themed candies for Christmas and Easter. In 1991, they released a patriotic brand of the milk chocolate candy to celebrate America's Independence on the 4th of July. The most recent variety of M&M's to be released is Caramel M&M's. This variety was released in 2017.
