What's the Origin of Caramel M&M's?
Caramel M&M's featured in this M&M's Fun Size Club Variety Mix were first released in 2017. Caramel M&M's come in the iconic, rounded-candy form.
The Origin of Peanut M&M's
Peanut M&M's were the second variety of M&M's to be released after the classic Milk Chocolate flavor was first introduced in 1941. The peanut variety was first introduced in 1954 and only came in one color: tan. This soon changed, however, as red, green and yellow varieties of the Peanut M&M's were introduced in 1960. An orange color replaced all red M&M's in 1976 because of a red dye scare that resulted in people becoming wary of eating any foods that use red food coloring. This red dye scare occurred because two varieties of red dye were ruled to be carcinogens. Although M&M's did not use either of the two carcinogenic red dyes, they decided to remove their red M&M anyways to satisfy their customers and give them peace of mind. Red M&M's were reintroduced to the individually wrapped candy in 1987.
