How They Work

HP ink cartridges work as a component of an inkjet printer and contain ink that is deposited onto printer paper during printing. Each of the ink cartridges contains one or more ink reservoirs. Some producers also add electronic contacts and a computer chip that communicates with the printer to make the printing process more convenient. HP printers use a thermal ink printing process. Inside of each HP ink cartridge is a heating element with a tiny metal plate or a resistor. When the printer is prompted to print, it sends a signal to the ink cartridge that initiates an electric current that flows through the metal plate or resistor to make it warm. Next, the ink comes into contact with the warm metal plate or resistor and is vaporized into a small bubble of steam inside of the ink cartridge's nozzle. The nozzle drops ink droplets onto the printer paper, and amazingly, this whole process only takes a fraction of a millisecond.
