Heath Toffee Bars History
Starting in 1913, L. S. Heath was a school teacher who purchased a little shop in Illinois. He was hoping this could become a business opportunity for his older sons. The brothers decided to open a combination store, a mix between a candy store, ice cream parlor and manufacturing operation in 1914. As business began to boom, the older Heath brother became even more interested in ice cream and he opened a small dairy factory. His sons furthered their work by expanding the confectionery business. Reportedly, the family then acquired a special toffee recipe from a mysterious traveling salesman who was a Greek confectioner in another city. By 1928, the brothers began the candy bar you know and love today, Heath English Toffee, one of America's most beloved English toffee bars.
