A heat spell in August helped accelerate the ripening process with little negative impact to the vineyards. Prior to harvest, the growers went through each site on a vine by vine basis and carefully removed any damaged clusters. Due to the rains in October, fruit was picked on three separate occasions based on flavor and the condition of the berries. Produced by guest winemaker David Lattin, the Handmade 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon comes entirely from a select group of sites in the Coombsville region of Napa. Recently granted AVA status, this cool, hilly region is located east of the town of Napa and north of San Pablo Bay. After a cold pre-soak and fermentation, the wine spent a total of 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels. It was bottled unfiltered to preserve the integrity of the fruit.
