Easter Sunday Egg Hunt
The kids always look forward to hunting for Easter eggs, so make this year’s Easter Egg Hunt special. Here are a few ways to make your Easter egg hunt the best-ever.
- Get the kids extra egg-cited. Hide one very shiny “golden egg” (You can make a golden egg by covering a regular egg with gold glitter). Include a note with the egg, so that the recipient knows it’s the right one. Offer a valuable prize to the child who finds it.
- If you have both older and younger kids attending your Easter egg hunt, separate the spaces. Perhaps some of the kids can hunt indoors and other kids can hunt outdoors. This way, you can hide eggs in lower, easier-to-find places for the younger kids and give the older kids a bit more of a challenge.
- For an extra level of challenge, hide clues in easy-to-find places and provide hints to find the hard-to-find eggs.
- Give an Easter basket to all the participants before they head home. You can pick up ready-made Easter baskets at Sam’s Club, or create your own. Sam’s Club has plenty of Easter basket ideas like plush toys, chocolate bunnies, marshmallow Easter candy and other treats. Extra points if the Easter bunny hands out the baskets!
Easter Crafts and Baking
Design a Bunny
Get some colored construction paper or use white paper from your printer. Cut out a stack of basic bunny shapes (For a guide, search online for “bunny stencil”) and then provide crayons, colored pencils and markers for the kids to draw on. Cotton balls make excellent tails! Once the bunnies are finished, hang them up around the house.
Egg Carton Critters
You probably have some empty egg cartons lying around, ready to be recycled. This is a perfect way to put those to use! Cut each carton so that there are 12 separate “pockets.” Turn each pocket so the empty side is facing down. Now, add googly eyes, pipe-cleaner ears, pain and other decorations to make the egg cartons into bugs or small animals like bunnies and chickens.
Easter Sugar Cookies
Why not use a classic sugar cookie recipe, and create simple egg-shaped cookies? Let the kids help you measure the ingredients and mix the batter. After the cookies are baked, have the kids help you decorate the Easter cookies with colored sugar and frosting.
Marshmallow Cereal Treats
Use bunny and chick-shaped marshmallow candy in place of marshmallows to create a colorful version of the classic treat made with crispy rice cereal and marshmallows. The kids are going to love the colors and the sweet, crunchy results. Also, the treats are moldable, especially when they’re still warm. Use a cookie cutter to create animal or egg shapes.
