What Is Mauna Loa?
The "Mauna Loa" in Mauna Loa Dry Roasted Macadamias is derived from the Mauna Loa volcano on the big island of Hawai'i. The volcano is widely considered the largest land volcano on Earth. The volcano is still active but does not have explosive eruptions. Instead, the volcano secretes nonviolent lava flows.

In 1881, the first macadamia tree was brought to Hawai'i. The tree was able to thrive in the tropical climate and soil, and the first plantation producing organic macadamia nuts was formed in 1921. By 1949, the original Mauna Loa plantation was established. Macadamia trees take at least 7 years to produce the nuts and take around 15 years to really start producing quality, organic macadamia nuts.
