When Was Original Dr Pepper Created?
Dr Pepper dates back to the mid-1880s when Pharmacist Charles Alderton put together a new carbonated beverage for the pharmacy where he worked. The owner, Wade Morrison named the new-found drink after an old family friend Dr. Charles Pepper. The pair patented the pop later that year, and the Dr Pepper drink was born. According to the company, Alderton put 23 flavors into his soda to try to replicate the smells of his pharmacy.
What Is Dr Pepper Nutritional Value?
A single Dr Pepper can is considered a serving. There are 24 servings in this package. They have 150 calories and 40 grams of sugar which make up the carbohydrate content of the soft drink. There is no fat and only 55 milligrams of sodium. This low sodium drink is consumable by those on a low-sodium diet. However, as this drink does use high fructose corn syrup as a sweetener, it should not be consumed by those with blood sugar issues.
Is This the Same Original Formula in the Dr Pepper 12 oz 24-pack?
While the base formula remains the same, Alderton used pure cane sugar to sweeten his drink as there was no high fructose corn syrup in the 1880s. This version of Dr Pepper products does not use the same cane sugar ingredient. Instead, they use high fructose corn syrup. The Dr Pepper company does offer a cane sugar soda in select locations. However, pure sugar does alter the taste slightly from the pop you may be used to.
