David and Mark Currie are brothers and the current co-owners of Creative Cuisine. They are both second-generation owners in this family owned local company. David and Mark both got their start working as bussers and dishwashers in the mid 80’s at Henry Wellington for their father, Mike Currie, and his partner, Jerry Zubay. Over the years they both worked every job within the company.
After graduating from John Marshall High School, Mark went on to engineering school, then eventually business school at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. David decided to pursue hunting full-time and bartending part time at the Redwood Room. In 2008, they both decided to become full time adults and bought the company from Mike and Jerry. The partners have had great success opening three new Newt’s locations: Express in the downtown skyway in 2009, Newt’s North in 2011, and Newt’s South in 2015. Newts South is the first restaurant in company history to be built from the ground up. In 2016, they launched Hefe Rojo in the 216 First Ave space. David and Mark recognized the changing needs of a growing Rochester and a gap in culinary options of the downtown area thus the concept Hefe Rojo was born.
