Customer reviews for Bissell BARKBATH Portable Dog Pet Bathing System, 1844W forWorks better than I expected.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This seems to work better than I expected. My dog took a bit to get used to the sound but when he adjusted, all was fine. It doesn't top a good old bath but its clean and not a mess to clean up after. It's a bit of a pain for a long hair dog but it will get the job done. If you can shampoo a carpet then you can shampoo a dog as it pretty much works the same way. Overall I like this a lot and it saves $ by not having to make so many trips to the groomer for a bath. It makes all the difference in the world once your dog cooperates. I suggest patience and a few treats.
Not Bad
First time using bark bath AND it's not bad. System is a great concept but buy with caution. Almost gave it 2 stars but was pleasantly surprised: Two dogs: One of my dogs hates getting bath and the other one tolerates them well. Dog that doesn't mind regular bathes HATED it, kept running and was very scared; but it was only the first time. Dog that hates bathes, actually didn't mind the BarkBath. For this reason alone I upgraded the stars because normally it takes 20 minutes just to get my shar pei in the tub. Don't purchase if: Your dog is either afraid of or aggressive with the vacuum cleaner because that's essentially what this system is; it's a carpet cleaner for dogs to include the loud carpet cleaner noise. Also be weary if you have a long haired dog that sheds a lot, I had to stop twice to clean the vacuum head because it got clogged with dog hair. For me this wasn't a huge issue because it beats have to plunge the shower drain because it gets clogged. Continuing: The instructions says to bath dogs on flat surface: go outside to bath your dog because it gets a little messy and you will have to mop afterwards. Oh, this system comes with a shampoo for the dog, IDK yet if you can use regular shampoo but if you can't then you stuck purchasing the shampoo online most likely; something I'm not too thrilled about.
Worked great for our hard to wash dog
This was exactly what we needed and worked very well for us. Our dog is a 12 year old golden retriever/corgi who has a large body and short legs. He is also arthritic in his hips and doesn't really like being wet. So as he aged, he would squeal when we would try to lift him into a bath, and didn't like a hose bath in the garden. And being a rescue he wasn't good with us trying to sponge bath him either. But being a low rider with short legs, his belly is constantly dusty/dirty and so we needed a way to keep him. He does like being brushed, belly rubs and when we trim his fur on the floor, so we just treated this experience as part of that and it worked. We were a little worried about the vacuum type noise the machine made, but it seemed that as long as we made a fuss of the dog he didn't seem to mind it. The machine worked well and it was pretty shocking how dirty the water was that came out of the dogs fur. Certain areas are more difficult to do like the tail and legs, but worked great on his body which is mainly what need cleaning and he didn't seem upset at all with what was happening. The fur was more wet than we had realized so if you are doing it in the house in winter, laying down towels and protecting furniture from the dog shaking water off is necessary - it isn't near as much water as if a dog is fully immersed but it is wet. The shampoo has a nice scent and isn't meant to have a deep lather due to the machine but seems to do a good job cleaning. The scent isn't overly strong but the dog did smell clean with a very slight fruity/floral note. Our dog also has sensitive skin and the shampoo and process itself seemed fine for him. Overall we were really pleased because we had gotten to a point where it was really difficult to wash the dog and he needs it.
Bye bye groomer!
Both of my dogs are hospital therapy dogs, which means they have to be bathed weekly. Instead of visiting the groomer and paying $50+ each time, now I groom at home! It takes about 15 minutes per dog, no mess, the dogs are fluffy and clean. I just wish I could donate one to every dog rescue in the country (starting with Murphy's former home, Daphneyland in Acton, CA)!
My dog and I LOVE the BARKBATH!
Having used the BARKBATH a couple of times now, I have to say I love it! What a great idea! My dog Jake is a country dog that gets into everything from the dusty roads and muddy creeks. I no longer stress about it because I have the help of BARKBATH. Jake is generally put off by the vacuum, but with the help of the training videos and the tips in the directions I was able to get Jake used to and he patiently sits and loves the attention. It's a double bonus because he enjoys it and gets clean without having to endure the cold water hose or a fight in the bath tub. The initial set up takes a little more time, but once you get used to how it all goes together it becomes quick. I love the little rug that it sits on to not only dampen noise but also aides in catching the shampoo/water combo if you get going too fast. Check out the BARKBATH! I highly recommend it!
I love this product!
I love my bark bath, I got it in 2 days of ordering it and had it put together and bathed a 30 lb dog and 50 lb dog in less than 45 minutes, in my kitchen floor! Had to rebathe my 50 lb dog this weekend, she rolled in something stinky, had that done in no time and the stink was gone! It leaves their coat shiny and soft. The shampoo that came with it was the mulberry sent and it doesnt leave much of a sent but they dont smell like dog any more either. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because it is alittle hard to bathe their legs and head, but I dont see how they could inproved on the design. I did get alittle wet from the dogs leaning on me and did squirt some water in the floor till I got the hang of it. My dogs didnt mind the noise, I left the machine itself on the cabinet and the rest of the hoses and stuff in the floor.
Easy to use. Saves water
I bought this for my senior dog. Granted she is comfortable around vacuums. Loves her brush attachment from another vacuum company, So there was no learning curve. Setup and priming is simple. Used only 1/2 tank for a full bath. I would like just a little more scent in the shampoo. She does have sensitive skin, so far no inching. Would also be great if cleaning brush was included so base unit could have multiple uses.
Not for small breed dogs
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The BISSELL Bark Bath PLUS – Portable Dog Bath System, 1844W seemed to be a great idea and something I really wanted to use with my dogs. Set up for the unit is a little time consuming the first time but not too difficult. After priming the system I used the BISSELL Bark Bath to bathe two of my dogs. The noise level is that of a vacuum cleaner and my dogs are used to that so they were not bothered by it. I own small breed dogs and the first issue I had with the bathing unit is the size of the nozzle; a bit large for a smaller dog body which makes it a bit awkward to manipulate. My dogs still needed to be towel dried because the suctioning could not reach all of their body areas. I think this bathing unit would be handy for large breed dogs that have larger body areas to clean. It is much simpler to put my small breed dogs in the bathtub and bathe them in just a few minutes which is less time than it takes to assemble the Bark Bath.
Great concept but needs improvements
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Having 3 dogs this seemed to be a great idea to make the task of washing them 100 times easier... Unfortunately, there is very low water pressure and doesn't work well on long haired dogs, especially the bigger ones. The shampoo that came with it didn't help much on the cleaning factor either. Best part of this combo is the brush that comes with it. Is great for getting that undercoat cleaned up. If they fixed the low pressure issue this machine would be amazing.
Bath any one
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Dog Bath System is great. At first knowing how to do it may take a time or two. But after that it is a great system. It is all in one. It is a easy way of bathing your dog , puppy. In stead of fighting with your dog out side or inside the tub its very easy. And cant afford to take your best friend to get a bath you can easily do it at your house. If a friend or a family member needs to give their best friend a bath you can take it to their house. No problem. And when you are done the unit cleans up really good. No problems there. And you cant go wrong with a Bissell product.
