NO RED DYE

As posted previously, please do not use the nectar provided with this feeder. A simple sugar water solution is all that is needed, in a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio, sugar:water (be careful not to caramelize the sugar). You can make a batch and keep in the refrigerator for up to one week. So easy!

Disappointed

I got a beautiful glass feeder, with a clear plastic bottom and ant guard. The picture do not match with the feeder I got. I loved it because it has the part on the top you can fill with water & it keeps the ants away, also the glass a plus & clear bottom part & the easy assembly, but I noticed some serious issues with it: you can not fill the glass full with humming bird nectar then the plastic bottom feeder leaks like crazy and it only fills a little nectar in the bottom of the feeder. You can barely fill it quarter full. The plastic bottom feeder part is easy to take apart and screws together on top of the glass. The holes are too big that are tons of midsize flies can get to the nectar & one time even a living wasp was still flying around inside the empty plastic feeder space above the part where the nectar is, since the plastic bottom feeder do not fill all the way with nectar. Lucky the plastic part is clear so I could see the wasp still alive and let it go outside in the yard and did not bring it inside the house. Wanted to love it, but they need to fix the issues.

NO RED DYE!

Red dye is toxic to hummingbirds! If you buy this kit don't use the red food! You can buy make healthy and safe food easily by mixing 1 cup white sugar with 4 cups hot/low boil water. Store food in fridge. Let's help these gorgeous birds by giving them safe food.

reply from Pennington Team

Hi Nancy- Thank you for your message. We understand your concern regarding red dye in hummingbird nectar. The dye is used for coloring purposes only. However, a simple mixture of plain white sugar and water is often preferred for feeding hummingbirds.

If you have any questions about our product or need further assistance, please feel free to reach out at 1-800-285-7333.

Thank you.

Disappointed

The glass part of the feeder is nice. The plastic feeder portion works. Humming birds want nothing to do with the red liquid.
