A Rich History of Creole Jambalaya

Creole jambalaya was born in New Orleans in the 18th century when Spanish settlers tried to recreate their beloved paella using Louisiana ingredients. Today, it’s a local staple, common from music festivals to Mardi Gras parties to quiet weeknight meals. And there’s a reason why boxes of this Jambalaya Rice Mix can be found in so many New Orleans pantries: It delivers classic jambalaya flavor and is incredibly easy to prepare.

  2. SIMMER for 25 minutes or until rice is tender.
  3. REMOVE from heat. Let stand for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving. *Add cooked shrimp during the last 5 minutes of cooking time.

Microwave Cooking Instructions

  1. MIX 2 1/2 cups hot water, Rice Mix, meat of one's choice*, and 1 tbsp. vegetable or olive oil (optional) in a 2 1/2-quart microwavable bowl until well blended. Cover.
  2. MICROWAVE on HIGH for 5 minutes. Stir. Microwave on MEDIUM (50% power) for 18 minutes or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. Let stand in the microwave for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving. *Add cooked shrimp during the last 5 minutes of cooking time.

Please note that microwave ovens vary; adjust cooking times as needed. Cooking times are based on an 1100 watt microwave oven. One should be cautious when removing the bowl and contents from the microwave, as they will be very hot. Use pot holders for safety.
