Member's Mark Parmesan Cheese may not be Italian, but its makers adhere to strict traditional methods and standards, delivering a full and authentic flavor to any Italian meal. Wisconsin dairy farmers have made cheese since the 19th century, as European immigrants were drawn to the fertile fields. By the mid-20th century, more than 1,500 cheese factories had sprung up in Wisconsin. Today, making over 600 different cheese varieties, Wisconsin remains the largest cheese producer in the United States and the only state that requires a licensed cheesemaker to oversee the making of commercial cheese.
