Lay's Potatoes Farm Grown
The potatoes used to make Lay's Barbecue Potato Chips are farm grown to make potato chips from high-quality potatoes. The potatoes are sliced into small sizes to make the ideal potato chip, then seasoned with the sweet and spicy flavor of Lay's BBQ sauce. Every bite of Lay's BBQ chips provides you with a delicious crisp and a savory barbecue flavor.
The Original, New Flavor Of Lay's
Lay's Barbecue Potato Chips were first created in 1958 and were the only other flavor of Lay's (other than original Lay's Potato Chips) available in North America until the late 70s, when Lay's Sour Cream and Onion chips were introduced. Surprisingly, flavored potato chips weren't actually able to be made until Joe "Spud" Murphy invented a technology that allowed for potato chips to be seasoned during the manufacturing process. Joe's success in introducing new, flavored potato chips inspired companies, like Lay's, to try their hand at flavoring their original potato chips. Thus leading to the invention of the Lay's BBQ flavored chips.
How Lay's Are Made
Lay's Barbecue Potato Chips are made from whole potatoes that are thinly sliced and then deep fried. The chips are then seasoned with a delicious Lay's barbecue sauce seasoning that hits sweet and spicy notes to satisfy hungry snackers. Many factories that make Lay's chips use around 21,500 pounds of potatoes an hour to make the chips. It usually takes around four pounds of potatoes to make a whole pound of potato chips. There are several inspection systems in place to ensure only the highest-quality potatoes are being used to make the potato chips.
