Flowers Hot Dog Buns are the perfect addition to any cookout or pantry. Soft, fluffy and just the right size, these hot dog buns are made to be the best foundation for hot dogs, yes, but work beautifully for pulled pork, sausages or brats.

Enriched Hot Dog Buns

These hot dog buns are labeled 'Enriched Buns,' though some people may not understand what this term means. There are three parts to a kernel, or berry, of wheat. White flour is made only from the starchy endosperm portion, leaving the parts of the wheat berry that contain the most nutrients to be tossed aside during the refinement process. White flour was originally made just by using large stones to grind the wheat berries, the resulting brown and yellow flour wasn't appealing to consumers in color or texture. New flour manufacturing techniques were introduced late in the 1800s, but doctors and nutritionists became concerned that these methods were removing too much nutrition. This sparked a movement toward improving the nutritional quality of white flours and, after many years of studies, they came to a conclusion to enrich white flour by adding vitamins and nutrients back into the refined flour in the early 1940s.

Nutrients Added to Hot Dog Buns

Vitamins, minerals and nutrients added to refined flours include calcium, phosphorus, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin and Vitamin E. While enriched bread has just as many, if not more, vitamins and nutrients than whole grain breads, the fiber is not replaced after refinement.
