Are There Really Benefits to Eating Chocolate?
When you grab a delicious square from your Ghirardelli Premium Chocolate Assortment, you might not have to feel so guilty about indulging. Despite its high fat and sugar content, several health benefits might be associated with your favorite treat. Some of the associated benefits may include lowering cholesterol, preventing cognitive decline and reducing the risk of cardiovascular issues.
What Should You Look For in Good Chocolate?
For the most part, choosing the best chocolate will be a matter of your personal preference. Selecting chocolate should be a sensory experience. Before you taste the chocolate, make sure it has a glossy surface and no blemishes. If the surface is scarred, cloudy or gray it may be a sign that the chocolate is old or has experienced extreme temperatures or handling. Breaking the chocolate should yield a clean snapping sound. If it bends or crumbles, the quality may be low or the chocolate is old. Not really an issue that you'll get with individually wrapped Ghirardelli chocolates.
About Ghirardelli Chocolates
The Ghirardelli Premium Chocolate Assortment comes from Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, one of the leading makers of chocolate in the U.S. The historic Ghirardelli chocolate factory in San Francisco is now a key landmark in the city, where it functions as an urban mall and tourist destination called Ghirardelli Square. In the 1990s, Ghirardelli increased its business, selling bagged chocolates in grocery stores and other outlets, as well as adding Ghirardelli baking chocolate and cocoa. Ghirardelli also owns several ice cream and chocolate stores. A family-owned company for more than 100 years, Ghirardelli chocolate passed through several owners in the 1980s and 1990s, and was finally bought in 1998 by the Swiss confectioner called Chocoladefabriken Lindt & Sprungli.
