This is our Ol’ Faithful. No, it’s not a geothermal phenomenon. It’s the beer everybody, including professional beer judges, just seems to dig. Maybe they like how it’s smooth, medium-bodied, and semi-sweet, while not too heavy or bitter. Maybe it’s the amber color, or the blend of four imported malts balanced by two Germanic hops, or the fact that it takes five weeks to get right. Or maybe it’s all the above.
Gold Leaf Lager:
- Hops: Northern Brewer, Saaz, Tettnang
- Malts: Pilsner, Weyermann Pilsner, Vienna, Acidulated
While Gold Leaf is on the lighter side, it takes five weeks to perfect this traditional German-style lager. An homage to the days when beers were made 100% from malted barley, Gold Leaf is brewed with four European malts tempered with a touch of three imported hops. Plus, it’s got subtle bready notes. And since it’s not super hoppy or dark, this beer doesn’t hide any flavor inconsistencies. That just keeps us honest.
Trail Angel Weiss:
- Hops: Tettnang
- Malts: Pilsner, Pale, Wheat, Acidulated, Dark Munich, CaraFoam, CaraAmber
Trail angels are folks who offer Appalachian Trail hikers trail magic, or unexpected acts of kindness, like sharing food or giving them a lift. Well, Trail Angel Weiss is that in beer form. We partnered with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and proudly donate $1 per case sold of Trail Angel Weiss to further their mission to preserve and protect the trail. The beer itself is honey colored with a light to medium body, soft palette from malted wheat, plus hints of banana and clove. It’s the style of beer that inspired us to open Devils Backbone!
- Hops: Simcoe, Hallertau Blanc, Mosaic
- Malts: Pilsner, Vienna, Golden Naked Oats, CaraHell, Acidulated Malt, Carafa II Special
We named this beer because we’re right off the Appalachian Trail, specifically Milepost 842. It’s a golden hybrid of the citrus and resinous flavors of an IPA with the fresh malt finish of a lager. With its medium body and crisp mouthfeel, it gives your tastebuds the same kind of lift hikers get when we pick them up off the trail and drive them to the brewpub!
