Amethyst stumbled into Bacchus when on way to give thanks at the shrine of the god Diana. Before the tigers could eat Amethyst, she was saved by Diana, and Dianna was turned into a clear crystal. Bacchus, feeling guilty for the fate he had caused her, poured the juice of grapes over the stone as an offering. According to the myth, this is what gave the gem its unique purple hue.
