What is the history of amethyst?

Amethysts are a variety of quartz. The stone, part of the hexagonal crystal system, is found in a range of light and dark purple shades. Most amethysts are sourced from Africa or South America with the largest deposits occurring in Brazil. The stone can be traced back to ancient times where it was highly valued and worn by historic saints, high priests and monarchs.

What is the meaning of amethyst?

The word “amethyst” comes from a Greek work that means “not drunken” because the stone wasthought to counter the effects of alcohol. It is also believed to aid with moderation in general and keeping a balanced mind.

Desired and admired across the world, amethysts are the best-selling purple-hued gemstone. A favoriteamong purposeful crystals, amethysts are used as healing stones in connection with the crown or third eye chakra

Is amethyst a birthstone?

Romantic amethyst is the birthstone of lucky ladies born in February. Gorgeous on everyone, the ring makes an especially sweet and on-point gift for those celebrating their birthday in the month ofFebruary. It can also be gifted as a luxurious Valentine’s Day present for Pieces.

What is the Greek legend about amethyst?

Several tales have been told about this mystical gem however the Greek legend is perhaps one of the most famous. According to the myth, the god Bacchus was angry over an insult, and was going to avenge himself by releasing a hoard of tigers upon the first person who crossed his path. Amethyst stumbled into Bacchus when on way to give thanks at the shrine of the god Diana. Before the tigers could eat Amethyst, she was saved by Diana, and Dianna was turned into a clear crystal. Bacchus, feeling guilty for the fate he had caused her, poured the juice of grapes over the stone as an offering. According to the myth, this is what gave the gem its unique purple hue. The tale continues and perpetuates the belief that if you drink from an amethyst cup, you will be abstained from intoxication.

What inspired this design?

Adding a dash of color to ensembles, the ring flaunts a translucent pinkish-purple stone inspired by dew drops on a freslilac flower. The rose gold band adds a complementary, feminine finish that takes the place of the supportive stem.
