I had been relying on the Hunts 100% Natural tomato sauce as the last available acceptable version of "tomato sauce" for my own recipes. The new Hunts version, simply called "Sauce," doesn't list any sweeteners in the ingredients (a huge plus in my opinion) but still tastes sweeter and has a distinctly different flavor. This flavor is so strong that it doesn't allow my other ingredients to stand out as before. Most other tomato sauce makers have adjusted their recipes in recent years making it important for me to check the labels for their ingredients. ALL of the available brands where I shop include other ingredients that I find completely unacceptable. I take my family recipes seriously and now am unable to reproduce the taste that made memories for all of us. Rather than be disappointed, I will simply have to stop making them.

I wish that I had kept a can of this sauce when it listed the ingredients as “tomatoes & salt”. I spoke with customer service, & the rep said that Hunt's is trying to be more ‘transparent' & list all the ingredients instead of just “spices”. IT NEVER SAID SPICES! My family had been buying this product since it was marketed. GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL RECIPE! Why would anyone want a tomato sauce to which someone has already added spices???

Go back to the original recipe if tomatoes & salt!

I thought it was just me, but see from other reviews that the taste has definitly changed.  Would you please explain why.  I have used hunts my whole life and am 70 years old. This is such a disappointment. My receipes just are not as good with this taste.

Taste change

It tasted so bad I had to rinse the sauce off of my spaghetti, I couldn't eat it. It tastes like chemicals with a side of tomato sauce, I wish I was exaggerating. I can't afford to throw out food, I just ate some moldy garlic bread, but I can't bring myself to eat this sauce.

Tastes like formaldehyde

What happened to Hunts Tomato Sauce?  I buy the no salt version for several years now and it was disgusting that we couldn't even to stand to eat the family dinner of spaghetti that night. I even made it again the next week and it still tasted horrible!  We have used it for 40 years and I have used the standard salted version too,so I bought some of that and it TOO tasted horrible. My conclusion is Hunts must have changed the TYPE of tomatoes they are using in the sauce. Just lost a long time customer.....  I hope more stop buying it and then Hunts will reconsider the tomatoes that taste good back in their cans. We eat spaghett weekly and I use tomato sauce in my soups too. This is terrible so everyone stop buying this until they get the tomatoes they use to use or whatever fixed!

I have been using Hunts tomato sauce for over 50 years and it was always good.  Trust me when I tell you I use it a lot.  I'd say in the last year or so it has been terrible.  There is something about the taste and last night the tomatoes I used weren't even red they were a reddish brown.  I will be trying other brands to find a better one.  I'm sorry you had to change it.

Change in tomato sauce

This tomato sauce is on sale by the case at a local supermarket and I had it on my grocery list. I came to the website to check the ingredients. After reading the reviews about how it has changed and how awful it is now, I'll be buying a different brand, even if slightly more expensive. Too bad!

Not going to purchase

I am not sure what Hunts has done to their tomato sauce, but I have used it for 40 years and something recently changed and it tastes terrible! I can't quite put my finger on it, but it is definitely different and effects my chili recipe, my spaghetti sauce recipe . . . They all taste completely different. After 40 years, I will be trying new sauces and trying to find a replacement. I am so sad, as this sauce is the one my Mother used and I loved it up until recently. I hope you change it back to the old recipe. It really is not good anymore.

Change in sauce recipe

I recently purchased some cans of Hunts "tomato" sauce and noticed the word "tomato" was no longer on the label. When I opened it at home, it was more like tomato juice then sauce. It seems to have more water than before; it was watery and not very flavorful. I'm now buying a different brand that is still able to list it as "tomato sauce" on their label. Very disappointed in this change in Hunt's product!

Where's the "tomato" in the sauce?

Hunt's spaghetti sauce and tomato paste were my favorite which I used for cooking various pasta dishes. Recently pasta meals I cooked using Hunt's tasted horrible. I thought maybe it was my cooking error. It kept happening every time I cooked with Hunt's. I decided to Google search to see if something was going on with Hunt's sauces. I find that Hunt's changed their sauces. I now have two cases of Hunt's tomator paste, and around 10 cans of Hunt's spaghetti sauce which are useless because if I use them they will only ruin my meal. I don't know what to do now because Hunt's WAS the best to me. It has been a couple months now that I have had to force down miserable tasting pasta dishes because I have been thinking it was my cooking. Irks me to learn that Hunt's ruined their products. Why did Hunt's do this? Competition for tomatoes? Selling the better ingredients elsewhere and giving us the junk? How about an explanation from Hunt's? It is not merely a change of flavor, it is a complete change to poor quality product.
