I use TurboTax every year and will continue to do so. Another review slammed this product because tax forms are not available in December. Duh! The IRS releases tax forms and they are never available that early. Some are not released until February but this is not the fault of any tax software. This is a great product!

Awesome Product

I have used TT ever since i can remember; 40+ years? (I remember long ago having the paper tax forms, but not actually filing wtih them.)  This includes my wife's sole-proprietor budiness for the past 20 or more years now.  Never seriously considered another product. Step by step instructions make it easy to do, and explanations and links are very helpful in understanding clearly what applies and is needed.  (Most of the time; what isn't is probably best left to a tax expert to address.)  Doing it myelf has taught me a lot regarding what can or cannot be inlcuded, record keepng, etc.  Preparing all the info/recrods takes 5 days, which woudl have to be done if I hired somene.  The easy part is actually doing the return via TT - that takes one day,

Allow one to more easily and quickly get to a knowledgeable tax representative.  May return was checked, I went to electronically file the federal and state returns, but it would not allow me to do so until one item was corrected.  May attempts did not work.  It took me a long time to finally get to a live person named Richard.  Richard had me update the software, shared my screen, and successfully directed me in the way to file.  He was very, very helpful, and I am very glad to receive his capable 5-star help.  Thank you.

Do not despair, the updates can't be available through TurboTax until the government releases them. TurboTax updates their software as the updates are made available.
You should be able to enter preliminary information, but most likely W-2s and End of Year account vlosures can't be entered until thecend of the year...

Turbo Tax is usually flawless but I found a few hitches this year:
1) First transfer of data from 2024 forms missed previous home office data. Second transfer to a new file worked.
2) The interface for reporting dividends, interest, etc. was jarringly different from the rest of the app and I had to spend some time figuring out what I was supposed to do. Why didn't you stick with reporting all 1099-INT or 1099-DIV separately?
3) First time I prepared to print, I was given the option of creating estimated payments and related forms for future State taxes. I stopped and saved the file at that point. When I re-opened the file, I could no longer see that option or find it.

Some hitches this year

used for a decade it does the job and no calculation errors.  wish it did all of philadelphia taxes which I still do by hand.  however it could use better coordination between forms as sometimes unneeded forms appear I repeat the process said forms disappear.  the download of 1099 from financial institutions are far smaller and often it makes mistake, so its mostly unhelpful as in the end still requires hand fixing

does the job worth the money

The interface for entering solo-401k contributions changed this year, and it was for the worse.  This caused significant extra time in figuring out what data to enter.  TT needs to clean up this interface and make it more straightforward for users to know what to enter and how to maximize contributions.

Good, but one area was painful for my situation.

I think your the software should be self-contained when looking for information about fixing an error. I felt like I was on a wild goose chase trying to figure out what the line item was for that needed correction, and where it was in the return. There was no context for the errors to fix.

TurboTax user experience

Some parts were very detailed in explaining things with concrete examples. Those were very good! Other parts were very limited and we had to research a lot. Please keep providing more and more explanations on definitions of items and where to find them.

AI trying to change my words as I type this review is BROKEN and it keeps changing to words that don't even exist and I have to retype. Do NOT PUT AI in this. It's already buggy and complex. Please don't make it worse.

For Depreciation, you should recommend the type of depreciation scheme since you already ask for the date.

For the K1s, please don't make use input multiple K1s in TurboTax for a single one we actually receive, because more than one box is selected for 1-3. You can program that to separate it. Having to manually separate makes this hard to read, because the entity is the SAME, and we cannot tell which is which without hitting "edit" (which is nerve-wracking). Please allow us to have TurboTax local file nicknames of certain items, like I have two 1099-INT from the same entity, but it looks the same unless I hit "edit". This makes it really difficult to check our work.

AI Makes This Buggy, Your Improvements are Noticed

Ordered in late December, only to download and learn that most of the features were not usable because many aspects of Turbotax weren't finalized yet. Then a month later it's on sale for $20 less. So I paid more for the product when it wasn't even usable.
