These books are what the Broadways musical Wicked is based on. These are not and have never been marketed as CHILDREN'S books. As a parent you should actually look into what you are buys your kids and not go just based on a Broadway production or a movie. 
The books give a lot more detail of how terrible things are for the animals, there are x-rated scenes fairly early, but these books are wonderfully written with a lot of political insight. Please if your child or teen asks to read, read the first 2 chapters and you will get a sense if it's age appropriate. Overall, would recommend to a friend but please know what you are setting them up for and if they can handle it.

Not What You Expect

I am an avid lover of all things wicked the musical. These books are not that! These are beyond traumatizing. Think of the worst things you've ever heard of, they are in these. Things you would have never thought of, in here.
The idea of wicked and origin of Elfie. Awesome great premise. Gave us all an outstanding broadway show and new amazing movie.
But These books? Burn em lol just awful.
