Redbreast Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey 15 Years (750 ml)

Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in copper pot stills, Redbreast 15 is comprised exclusively of Pot Still whiskeys matured in the finest oak casks for no less than 15 years and non-chill filtered. A careful balance of first fill and refill casks accentuates the assorted spices within Redbreast's characteristic full and complex flavor, amplified through additional maturation. On the nose, it is full and rich with a complex yet balanced mix of berry fruits and aromatic oils. The taste is fully round and mellow with the succulence of fleshy fruit combined with spices and toasted wood. The finish is long and sophisticated. Built on a loyal following of "those in the know," today Redbreast is the largest selling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey in the world and is considered the definitive expression of the traditional Irish spirit. W &amp; A Gilbey was founded in 1857 and began in small basement cellars at the corner of Oxford Street and Berwick Street in London. By 1866 the company moved to new offices and stores in the center of Dublin. In 1887 an alliance with Jameson had formed. The first official reference to the brand name, "Redbreast," appears in August 1912. The last bottling of Redbreast under the Gilbey’s banner occurred in 1985 and was reintroduced by Irish Distillers Limited in December 1991. In 2005, the seminal Redbreast 15 is released.

I had the chance to try Redbreast 15 Year Old at SXSW, and it was excellent. The whiskey was beautifully balanced, with a rich, smooth character and plenty of depth without being heavy. The pot still style really came through, with layered fruit, spice, and a long, warming finish. Sampling it at SXSW only added to the experience — it stood out immediately as something special and memorable. Definitely a whiskey I'd happily return to.

I bought my first bottle of this a week ago on a recommendation from a friend, little did I know he was referring to the 12 year. I was not disappointed. The nose, honestly brought me back to my childhood. Memories flooded my mind from the times I was around my grandfather as he made his homemade wine. The proper balance of fruit and smooth spice is incredible. The taste like no other, very full of stoned fruits and extremely smooth and clean finish.

For the less experienced whiskey enjoyer, Redbreast 15 offers a smooth, very generous intro into the whiskey catalog with a unique and enjoyable taste.

My ranking as far as the Redbreast products I've gotten my hands on:
1. Redbreast 15
2. Readbreast 12 Cask Strength
3. Redbreast 12
4. Redbreast Lustau

Definitely worth the extra money from the 12 or 12 cask strength. I'm no experienced aficionado to mention tasking notes, though this is by far the smoothest whiskey I've had in a fair while, and definitely in my top three!

Perhaps my favorite Redbreast Whiskey

I just returned from a trip to Ireland on my 1st day my wonderful wife went to the bar and asked for a good whiskey. Not knowing what selection or types the bartender told her I should like Redbreast. She brought it to the room while I was getting cleaned up after the long trip from the USA. I loved it so much I spent the next 6 days only drinking the different flavorful Redbreast varieties while in Ireland. On our travel day back to the USA I bought 6 bottles at duty free. The 12 (2 bottles) The 15 (2 bottles) Cask Strength, and finally Lustau. Where I live in the States I can not get Redbreast or any other really good Irish Whiskey I tasted there. I will just say the other I enjoyed had a Spot of Green… if you've had it you will know the name. I didn't want to promote another whiskey on this site. Since there was two of us I was able to bring back a couple bottles of that as well and not go over the limit.

EXCELLENCE

The second selection I'm trying from my Redbreast sample set, is Redbreast Single Pot Still Irish Whisky 15 years aged.

Color is a warm ripe wheat hue in the glass (as with most Jameson products, the green-tinged bottle hides the color within).  The nose is milder than the RB 12 year aged that is their flagship expression.  There is a faint but distinctive coppery tinge that makes one think of Scotch whisky that shares the pot still production.  The nose is sharp when nose right from the top of the Glencairn glass, but is slight from a distance.

First sip is mild and dry and again shares the sort of tangy, barely smoky sensation.  The finish is warming and enjoyable....drifting away slowly with a reminiscence of apricots steeped in astringent oak.  Subsequent sips brings the sweetness to overcome the remainder of the notes, but not to overwhelm them.  Overall, everything about Redbreast 15 year is mildly balanced and nuanced.  There is nothing outlandish or jarring about the 15 year...it's just plain enjoyable. expectable and calming.  Single Pot Still Irish Whisky 15 years aged gets a plus on the recommended list

Redbreast 15 is Exceptional!

It retains the signature Redbreast richness while presenting a more layered, composed profile overall. A strong “step-up” option for elevated sipping.

It strikes an amazing balance between youthful vibrance and the deeper flavors of a mature spirit. As with other Redbreast expressions, what it states on the box is exactly what you get and more.

The nose is inviting with oily fruits and berries, as well as creamy vanilla, malt, and a touch of oak. The palate follows suit with bold baking spice, juicy stone fruits, chili oil, and rich caramel. All of this followed by a lingering warm and spicy finish.

Boldly Vibrant and Elegant
