About this item

Product details

Enchanting Clematis Vines

Admired for their breathtaking flowers, Clematis vines are often referred to as the "Queen of the Climbers". These plants can be easily trained to grow on trellises and fences, or to arch gracefully over doorways. When used alone, they create a major focal impact, adding a touch of elegance and beauty to any garden. Not only are they visually stunning, but Clematis vines are also great for attracting pollinators and are perennial, returning year after year to grace your garden with their presence.

Clematis Soil Prep Instructions

The ideal soil for Clematis vines is porous and drains well, yet retains enough water for the roots. If your soil is heavy clay that drains slowly, or very sandy and does not hold water, adding organic soil amendments such as peat moss or ground bark can improve its quality. A 3-4" layer of soil amendment, along with fertilizer, should be incorporated into the soil to a depth of 10".

Planting Instructions

Start by digging a hole and placing the root(s) at the recommended depth and spacing. Cover with soil. If you're planting a large quantity of roots in one bed, it's best to excavate the entire area to the recommended depth, work fertilizer into the bottom of the trench, place the plants, and then cover the roots all at once. Water thoroughly at planting.

Care and Maintenance

While the Clematis vines are actively growing, they require frequent and thorough watering so that the water reaches the roots. Mulching is recommended to keep the soil cool and to prevent it from drying out. For optimal growth and flowering, apply fertilizer before and after the flowering period.

No good

I’ve tried several of these boxed bulbs/roots from Sam’s and none have ever grew. Not the clematis, cone flower, or any of the others I’ve tried. Waste of money imo.
