Irish winters can be harsh, and during our early years our unused barrels were left exposed to the elements in the courtyard of our distillery. When the time came to fill those barrels with whiskey, our coopers would invigorate them with a quick char. But what started as upkeep proved to have a nice effect on the whiskey that rested within, and Jameson Black Barrel is our nod to that discovery. These days our approach to whiskey making is far more refined than back then—we still use charred barrels, only nowadays it’s by choice rather than necessity. Turns out, whiskey that’s spent time in double charred barrels carries an untold richness and complexity. Every barrel contains secrets; the trick is coaxing them out. Matured in a combination of American oak, sherry casks&nbsp;and double charred bourbon barrels, Jameson Black Barrel is a traditional Irish blend of pot still and grain still whiskey but includes an additional "small batch"&nbsp;grain whiskey also. Bursting with rich, complex flavors of fruit, caramel, toasted wood, warm spice&nbsp;and vanilla sweetness, the double charring delivers an embellished finish to our triple distilled smoothness. Whiskey discoveries rarely emerge from a daily chore, but one sip of Jameson Black Barrel is proof enough. A fitting tribute to double charring and the coopers who uncovered it. My wife and I were in Ireland and took the Jameson tour. After had a few different drinks my wife asked for an Irish coffee, the bartender served her black barrel with simple syrup , coffee and heavy cream. That is how we made them now and how we order them in Kentucky. Fantastic taste and finish!

Jameson Black Barrel Reserve is a great example of how Jameson keeps things fresh and exciting. It’s perfect for relaxing after a long day or celebrating something special. Definitely worth trying if you want a whiskey that’s smooth but still full of character. Always my Go  To.

Amazing Taste!

Jameson Black Barrel is easily one of my favorite whiskeys. The extra charring really comes through and gives it a deeper, richer flavor compared to regular Jameson. I pick up smooth notes of vanilla, toasted wood, and a hint of sweetness that make it incredibly easy to sip neat or on the rocks. It has a warm finish without being harsh, which I really appreciate. For the price and quality, it is an excellent bottle to keep on hand.

The influence of the double-charred barrels is unmistakable, lending an inviting, almost dessert-like aroma without tipping into sweetness overload.

The palate is where Black Barrel truly shines. It opens with layers of creamy toffee and vanilla, quickly joined by ripe orchard fruit and a gentle spice—think cinnamon and nutmeg rather than sharp heat. The mouthfeel is notably fuller and rounder than standard Jameson, yet still remarkably smooth. Excellent taste

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were in Dublin in May of last year and enjoyed the Distillery tour. We also did the Blending class which was awesome. I really liked the Black Barrel. Very smooth and a great sipping whiskey.Have a couple bottles on hand at all times.

Great tastine

Jameson Black Barrel is hands-down one of the smoothest Irish whiskeys I’ve had. The extra charring on the barrels really makes a difference — you get rich notes of caramel, toasted oak, vanilla, and just the right touch of spice without any harsh burn.

It’s incredibly balanced. Smooth enough to sip neat, but also elevated enough to make an amazing Old Fashioned. There’s a depth and warmth to it that feels premium without being overpowering.

It’s a solid value and approachable for both newcomers and casual whiskey fans, though more seasoned enthusiasts may find it a bit mild or sweet compared with higher-end expressions.

It's a comfort taste that makes for great misced drinks or on the rocks or straight up.  My father taught me about whiskeys, and if he were still alive I know he would love Jameson Black Barrel.  It brings back memories of my dad even though we never had a chance to taste it together.

Wonderful

I am not a jameson person at all. It takes a special kind if person to like this stuff. It is very heavy, taste is strong, and it usually makes me sick. Super easy to find and worth it at least once if you've never had it. Price is pretty decent too.
