About this item

Product details

It’s award winning for a reason. Heineken Light combines the subtle cues of the original Heineken signature flavor, with a distinctive balance all its own. With just 90 calories and 6g of carbs, it is a beer that exudes taste inside and out. Heineken Light is brewed with Cascade hops and our signature Heineken A-Yeast® for the crisp, refreshing flavor, subtle bitterness, and clean finish.

Serve cold between 35 degrees F and 40 degrees F. Drink straight from can if that's what you like or: pour under 45 degrees into clean, cold beer glass with a full foamy head to keep air out and carbonation in. Store cool and dark and don't let it get cold.

Brewing

Our Heineken lager contains three main ingredients: malted barley, hop extract and water. When our Heineken A-Yeast® is added, this is when Heineken magically transforms into the brew, we all know and love. It all starts with barley. A grain bursting with goodness, containing starch, protein and fiber. After soaking, the barley is gently heated to dry out over the course of a few days. This meticulous process is called malting. Heineken is brewed from premium malt. It's about what you put in and what you leave out. No corn, no rice, no compromise. Hops is a plant brimming with flavor. There are many varieties of hops, each with a distinctive flavor, from spicy aromas to mild herbal flavors. Selecting the right crop is an art form in itself. Water is the main ingredient in lager, it can make up an incredible 95% of the finished product. Water is mixed with the crushed, malted barley. This creates wort, a sweet sugary liquid, which is then boiled. Then hop extract is added to enhance the flavor.

At the right temperature, our unique Heineken A-Yeast is added, thus starting the natural process of fermentation that converts sugar into alcohol and CO2. This process creates the characteristic balanced Heineken taste. Our Heineken A-Yeast® is happiest with a large surface area which is possible in our horizontal fermentation tanks. We discovered the special Heineken A-Yeast® in the 19th century. Ever since, it has been the key to Heineken's characteristic balanced taste. We take 28 days to brew Heineken. To get the perfectly balanced taste, refreshing clarity and beautiful golden-yellow color. Quality takes time, it's worth it.

Story

It’s been 140 years since Heineken has been able to call itself a microbrewer. And while we’re proud that 25 million Heineken’s are served each day across 192 countries, we’ve never forgotten that the quality is measured not in the size of our brand but in the purity of our beer. Even as we continue to open up to new worlds, Gerard’s uncompromised drive for quality and perfection still lives on in the Heineken family. Cheers!

Company History

Gerard Adriaan Heineken is born into an Amsterdam merchant family in 1841. In 1864 he buys brewery ‘De Hooiberg’ (The Haystack) in Amsterdam and immediately turns his focus towards brewing uncompromised premium lager beer. He embraces the latest brewing innovations and becomes the first brewer on the planet to introduce a quality control lab. He also did a lot for the city of Amsterdam. Heineken won the medal D’Or at the International Maritime Exhibition in 1875 and in 1889 Their pilsner won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Paris Expo. In 1890 Heineken started supplying the restaurant at the Eiffel Tower. In 1933 a ship full of Heineken beer sailed to New York just as prohibition was lifted, making Heineken the 1st import beer available.

Sustainability

In 1963 the world bottle (WOBO) was designed that allowed the bottle to be reused as a brick for building houses which could’ve resulted in less litter and efficient up-cycling of materials. Technical hurdles after the first trial production in 1965, prevented the concept from being implemented. This initiative is just one of many though. As a worldwide known brand that is served in 192 countries, Heineken takes responsibility and aims to be sustainable in everything we do. By protecting water resources, reducing CO2 emissions, sourcing sustainably and advocating responsible consumption, we are 'brewing a better world'.

Heineken is brewed from premium malted barley with 67% of all the barley and 97% of hops comes from sustainable sources, and in France we’re already at 100%. The barley grains that are left over after brewing beer, are not wasted. It’s used to feed cattle; they love it. At our Den Bosch (NL) brew house, we opened in 2019 the world’s largest solar panel park on the site of a brewery. In Austria we now have 2 breweries working on 100% renewable energy. We minimize the amount of material we use, and all our carton packs are FSC certified “green”. Glass (bottles 57% recycled glass) and aluminum (cans 48% recycled aluminum). In Brazil our cans are already made out of more than 95% recycled aluminum.
