4K TV Buying Guide

If you're thinking about buying a new television, there are a few things to consider. Sam's Club® has a wide selection of HD TVs and Full HD TVs. And for the ultimate television experience, now there's a technology called 4K Ultra HD. The 4K TV Buying Guide will walk you through the benefits of 4K TVs, so you can decide if it's right for you.

What is Ultra HD (UHD) Technology?

You may see and hear several different terms to describe 4K TVs. One of them is Ultra HD (also referred to as UHD) Technology. This term refers to the number of pixels on the screen. The more pixels there are, the better the picture quality you'll see. With regular Full HD TVs, there are a little more than 2 million pixels. With 4K Ultra HD, you're getting 8.3 million pixels, for a picture that's four times clearer than Full HD!

As you're shopping and learning about Ultra HD TVs, there some terms that will be helpful to know.

Upscaling. Since not all content has caught up with the latest technology, there's software inside your television that analyzes the pixels in whatever you're watching and fills in, or “upscales” the picture. The result is that you can watch non 4K HD content on your 4K TV and it will look spectacular!

HDR. HDR stands for high dynamic range. You may have heard this term in relation to photos. TV HDR is different. With HDR for television, the TV's contrast ratio and color palette are expanded, which results in a more natural and realistic image.
