Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need hearing aids?

Early signs of hearing loss can include missing higher pitched speech sounds (consonants), trouble understanding speech when background noise is present, turning TV or radio volume up higher than normal, and speech or noises around you seem muffled. Although there are many telltale signs of hearing loss, the only way to determine a true loss of hearing is through a hearing evaluation conducted by a hearing health professional.

How do I schedule a hearing test and how long will it take?

You can schedule your hearing test online or walk-ins are welcome at a hearing center near you. While the hearing test time can vary, we recommend you allow at least an hour for the full test and plenty of time to discuss your results. Our hearing specialist will provide a thorough explanation of your results and can offer you a hearing aid solution you can take home immediately.

What do I need to bring to my exam?

When you come for your visit, it is always helpful to provide your specialist with any pertinent information you think is necessary. You are also welcome to bring a friend or loved one as well.

What can I expect during my exam?

Our specialists will conduct various tests in which you will hear tones, repeat words, and measure your comfort. This complete exam will present a picture of your hearing, identify if there appears to be a hearing loss, and guide you toward the best solutions. There is no pain associated with a hearing test. If you are experiencing pain in your ears, or if we uncover anything during the test that doesn't fit the picture of a typical hearing loss, we will recommend you see your doctor.

Who can get a free hearing exam and free one-on-one consultation with a licensed specialist?

Anyone 19 years of age or older. Sam’s Club membership is not required for the free hearing exam or the individual consultation.

Is the hearing exam really free?

Yes. You’ll never be charged testing fees, consultation fees, or fitting fees. Plus, you can stop by any of our hearing aid center locations at any time to get cleanings for free. While there is no charge for the test, if you elect to purchase a hearing solution at a Sam’s Club, a membership is required.

Which hearing aid is right for me?

Your level of hearing loss as well as lifestyle preferences will help guide you and your specialist in determining the right hearing aid choice if you need them. Over-the-counter hearing aids are designed to help people with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss.

Prescription hearing aids are suitable for anyone with perceived mild, moderate, severe or profound hearing loss. They do require a hearing test and prescription provided by a hearing aid specialist or audiologist. The best way to determine which type of hearing aid is right for you is to have a hearing test to accurately determine your level of hearing impairment.

How do I care for my hearing aids?

We offer lifetime support of your hearing aids. This includes free cleanings and adjustments. Just make an appointment or stop by for any help you might need. Cleanings will help keep your hearing aids performing at their best. There are regular cleaning steps you can take at home that will keep your hearing aids functioning at their best. Please use the below as a recommendation for how to best care for your hearing aids.

  • Wipe down your hearing aids and remove any wax or debris 1x to 2x per week.
  • Visit your specialist for standard ear tip and wax guard replacements.
  • Replace receiver 1x per year.
  • Keep hearing aids dry—use hearing aid dryer 1x per week.

How often should I get my hearing tested?

We recommend everyone 19 years and older have their hearing tested annually. This helps establish a baseline of your hearing health, so you know over time if and how it’s changed. Anyone with hearing loss and hearing aids should also get an annual hearing exam (audiogram) to make any necessary device adjustments for the best hearing experience year after year.

Who is conducting the hearing test and what are their qualifications?

Your hearing test will be conducted by either a licensed hearing aid specialist or an audiologist. All specialists and audiologists are certified. Each state has their own list of requirements and qualifications to become a licensed specialist.
