Television Buying Tips

When shopping for a new television, there's much more than just the looks of the television to consider. Even the sleekest-looking TV is only as good as its features and quality. What should you be looking for as you're choosing your new television? Here are a few tips for selecting the TV that's perfect for you.

Types of Televisions

Nowadays, there are a many different types of televisions on the market. Some offer the latest bells and whistles, while some provide more basic features and are more budget-friendly. At Sam's Club, you can explore a wide range of television types: LCD TVs, LED TVs, Plasma TVs, and 3D TVs.

Television Size

To determine the television size you should be looking for, consider both the size of the room in which the TV set will be placed and the distance between the television and where viewers will be sitting. For instance, if you're looking for a television for your living room, then you'll need to consider the size of your television in proportion to the living room area. The larger the room and the farther away viewers are sitting, the larger the screen you'll need. Small rooms with short viewing distances may call for flat screen TVs of about 20-32 inches while large rooms may need a widescreen, plasma or LCD. On the other hand, if you're planning to buy a television for your kitchen or bathroom, or even a small or medium sized living room, then you can consider buying a combo television or a small LCD TV. If required, make sure the TV you choose is wall-mountable. Otherwise, be sure the television will fit on the TV stand you're planning to place it on.

Screen Resolution

Screen resolution refers to the number of pixels, or picture elements, a screen contains. A pixel is basically a set of three phosphors of red, blue, and green, all lined next to each other. The phosphors, when hit from the back by electron beams, glow at different intensities to produce millions of different colors by moving across the screen from left to right in a series of thin rows, thus producing an image. The rows, called scan lines, form the resolution of a television. The higher the resolution, the better the clarity of picture. HDTVs can have screen resolutions of 1920x1080, 1024x768, and so on.

Contrast Ratio of Televisions

Contrast ratio is the difference between the darkest black images and the brightest white images that a television can produce. The higher the contrast ratio a television offers, the crisper and richer details it will display.

TV Accessories

Once you've decided on what type of television you want, it's time to start thinking about the TV accessories you'll need to get the most out of your new television. Make sure you purchase all the cables that will be needed to set up your TV; there's nothing more frustrating than having a new TV and not being able to watch it because you don't have the right connectors! To enhance your viewing pleasure, you might want to check out home theater systems, Blu-Ray and DVD players, and television stands.

For impact, take a look at some pedestal or floor stands to place your television on. Wall mounting is also a great way to enhance the aesthetics of the television while being a great space saving solution. However, if you're choosing a wall mount option, then make sure it's on a safe and solid wall, and that the television is not mounted above a radiator or other intense heat source.

Now that you've got some idea of what to look for, start shopping to discover your new television here at Sam's Club. No matter what type of television you want and no matter what your budget, you'll be able to find a TV you'll love.
