Simple Steps to Saving Green

When you see this symbol on a Sam‘s Club product, it means that product has taken a step toward being more environmentally responsible in the way it was created, processed and/or distributed. We created the symbol to give Members an easy way to shop at their local Sam‘s Club for products that have a sustainable story to share. You‘ll also see it next to tips or services that take steps toward more sustainable living.

The meaning behind the symbol

Some of our products displaying the eco symbol have been certified by one of the following third-party organizations that set standards for protecting the environment. Other products that display the symbol have been recognized as being better for the environment than their alternatives. Recognizing products, such as compacted laundry detergent, that take steps in the right direction helps highlight choices we can all make to support sustainability


Fair Trade Certified

Small-scale farmers work hard to stay out of poverty and on their land to earn an income in the face of a competitive global marketplace. Fair Trade Certified means that farmers, including coffee growers, connect directly with buyers through fair trade programs, which allows them to receive a fair price for their crops. Learn more

Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)

The MSC is a independent non-profit organization that has developed a global environmental standard for sustainable fisheries. Fishing products receive the MSC label for environmentally responsible fishery management and practices. Learn more

Aquaculture Certification Council (ACC) Certified

The Aquaculture Certification Council (ACC) certifies social, environmental and food safety standards at aquaculture facilities throughout the world. Shrimp that is responsibly produced receives the Best Acquaculture Practices Certification Mark. Learn more

Energy Star Certified

Fossil fuels generate most of our energy. Using less energy reduces greenhouse gas pollution emissions and lowers your energy bill. Products with the Energy Star symbol meet energy efficiency guidelines established by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy.

USDA Organic Certified

USDA Organic certified foods are produced without antibiotics, hormones, chemical fertilizers, synthetic pesticides or herbicides. Certified organic foods are produced through responsible farming practices, including use of renewable resources and conservation of soil and water. Learn more

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international organization that accredits independent, third-party organizations to certify forest managers and forest product producers that meet FSC standards. Its trademark provides international recognition including processing, manufacturing and distribution. Learn more

WaterSense Certified

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sponsors WaterSense, a water efficiency program. Look for the WaterSense symbol and choose quality, water-efficient products such as high-efficiency toilets and showerheads. Replacing inefficient toilets could save nearly 2 billion gallons of water daily across the United States. Showering uses more than 1.2 trillion gallons of water annually. Learn more
