The pail is designed with an airtight seal and has oxygen absorbers that remove all oxygen for greater preservation of the wheat over a long period of time.</p> <h3>How Should the Hard Red Wheat be Stored?</h3> <p>The Augason Farms Hard Red Wheat Pail should be stored in a cool, dry environment, between 55°F and 70°F. Heat will shorten the storage life of the wheat so keep cool for longer storage life. Use the airtight sealed lid to keep the Augason Farms wheat secure when storing.</p> <h3>Should You Be Worried If the Pail Gets Dented?</h3> <p>You do not need to be worried if the pail gets dented. It is common for pails to endure normal wear-and-tear or from air pressure changes when changing altitudes. I received the Augason Farms 40 lb. Hard Red Wheat in a sealed bucket with an oxygen absorber inside to keep the wheat fresh.  The wheat is very clean with no signs of any debris, etc.  I have been milling the wheat with no problems.  It mills great and bread taste good made from it.  I highly recommend purchasing this item.  My bucket arrived fast, not damaged and sealed tight.

Great clean Wheat!

My second purchase of Augason Farms grain.  Hard white wheat makes great bread.  I expect the hard red will be every bit as good.  Top container has been opened.  Bottom container (2nd purchase) shows the effect of the oxygen absorber which Augason packs with their product to keep it dry and fresh.  

Great packaging, perfect shipping charge, and v. good product.

I bought this bucket for storage. I grind and use these hard wheat berries for baking my bread and It is great to be able to buy some and keep it till I need it without worry of it spoiling. I will keep buying this as long as I keep baking my bread.

Great price!

I could hardly wait to grind this wheat into flour and give it the old baking test. I was not disappointed! The bread I made was hands down the best that has ever come from that recipe. I also made some snicker doodle cookies that the kiddos loved! Just remember to fine grind for your cookies or they have a "nuttier" texture. I ground it a bit courser for the bread and the texture was superb!

Love this!

This is a full 40-lb bag of hard winter wheat (as in bread, pasta and sprouting) in a plastic bucket. Great. Just be advised that it is a SIX gallon bucket, not a FIVE gallon bucket. It does not fit under the bed. I am in process of moving my Christmas ornaments from a closet to the garage to accommodate these beauties. You could also stack two, put a round table top and a large table cloth over it and hide them in plain sight. It's a great value.

BIG Value

We purchased this product after calling Auguson Farms and verifying with them that it is GMO free, and were very pleased. The wheat berries appear fresh and clean, and milled beautifully. We made tasty healthy bread that turned out very well :) It was shipped promptly, great price and came right to our door! They come in a sealed bucket, so should remain fresh if you buy extra for the future, with a 30 year or more shelf life, unopened, about a year, if opened. Hope this review was helpful :)

Purchased online and delivered to the door. Good quantity at a great price. Well stored and clean. Grinds well and works good in all areas of baking.

Hard red wheat

I bought these specifically for sprouting for juicing wheat grass. The price is great and the seeds are super clean and come in a super strong air tight 6 gallon bucket. I will buy again.

I was worried if 40 lbs could survive the shipment and it did.

Delivered in great shape

I just received 6 of these. I opened one to see how it's packed. I'm not sure how and why this is rated for 30 years. It's loose packed in the bucket, no mylar bag, no oxygen absorber. Perhaps I'm not up on my storage methods for long term wheat with 30 year longevity, but this worries me.
I'll ask Augason Farms and see what they say. I guess I'll use this one to experiment in the mean time.......The wheat looks very good though!

Loose in the bucket

I've had this for a year. I've tried near a dozen times and I might get 50% germination. A total waste of money. I've never had a problem with any other seed.
