About this item

This five-coin bracelet contains the coins that represent American history: Indian Head Penny, Mercury Dime, Barber Dime, Buffalo Nickel and Wheat Penny.

Mercury Dime: Minted from 1916-1945
Front: Figure of mythological goddess Liberty wearing Phrygian cap surrounded by the word Liberty.
Reverse: A fasces, a bundle of rods containing a protruding axe blade, a common icon in American history, with olive branches.

Wheat Penny: Minted from 1909-1958
Both the front and the reverse were designed by Victor David Brenner, a New York sculptor. Brenner's initials, V.D.B., were included on the reverse of the coin below the two stylized wheat stalks on a limited number of the coins until public controversy forced their removal. Brenner's initials were restored to the front, below Lincoln's shoulder, in 1918.

Buffalo Nickel: Minted from 1913-1938
The portrait is believed to be made up of chiefs from different tribes, the Minicoujou Sioux, the Cheyenne and the Kiowa. The Bison on the reverse symbolizes our vanishing American wilderness and was believed to be modeled by Black Diamond from the Central Park Zoo.
Front: Native American with the word Liberty
Reverse: American Bison

Indian Head Penny: Minted from 1859-1909
Front: Native American wearing a feather headdress along with the year of production.
Reverse: Features a wreath of laurel (olive) in the 1859 series. In 1860 until the end of the series the denomination was found within a wreath of oak and olive tied at the base with a ribbon and the federal shield above.

Barber Dime: Minted from 1892-1916
Front: The figure of Lady Liberty with a Liberty Cap was based on the Morgan Dollar considered to be one of the most successful coins of the time.
Reverse: Features an agricultural wreath surrounding the words One Dime.
