The cutting surface is 14.5 so that your 12x12 paper will lay flat when cutting. The guillotine safety features are great! The blade will not cut you if you touch grab or even chop your hand. Since this trimmer has a large blade it will cut up to 10 sheets of 24 pound paper at a time. You must hold down the active cutting guide to assure an accurate cut.
