Description

The front side design is a rendition of the classic Saint-Gaudens gold coin. It portrays a full length image of Liberty, facing forward with an olive branch in her left hand and a raised torch in her right hand. Lady Liberty is encircled by 50 stars, representing each state and the word Liberty above her head while rays of sun extend upward from behind her.

The back features a beautiful portrait of a bald eagle returning to her hatchlings symbolizing the strength and security of American families. Above the nest in the air is another adult eagle clutching a branch with its wings outspread preparing to land. This has become the most popular gold bullion coin ever minted by the United States Mint.
