Honeycrisp apples taste great when eaten fresh out of hand, when sliced and served with mild cheeses or nut butters, and when transformed into apple sauce, juice and smoothies or baked desserts. Crunchy and juicy, Honeycrisp apples offer a wonderful addition to fresh salads. Honeycrisp apples are sweet and delicious with a refreshing tang.

Recipe: Spiced Apple Pie Samosas

Instructions:

  • 2 Honeycrisp Apples
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp each of ground cloves, nutmeg, ground cardamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped dates
  • 4 sheets filo pastry
  • 4oz cream cheese

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Peel, core and thinly slice apples.
  3. In small saucepan, place apples, lemon juice, sugar, spices and chopped dates.
  4. Cover saucepan and cook on medium heat until apples are soft, stirring once or twice.
  5. Pour into a shallow dish and set aside to cool slightly.
  6. Cut filo sheets in thirds, lengthways, then spray quickly with cooking spray.
  7. Place a dollop of cream cheese topped with a spoonful of cooled apple filling at the top of each strip, then fold over and over to form triangle parcels.
  8. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Serve while warm.
