When you buy a phone from a service provider, you're locked into using a certain carrier to get your cell phone plan. Switching carriers requires getting a new phone or paying to unlock your current phone. Buying an unlocked phone is different. Activation with Carrier Steps
To activate your new Google Pixel, all you need to do is get a SIM card from one of the following compatible carriers. Compatible carriers with the Google Pixel include compatible with all major U.S. carriers, including Google Fi, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. Also compatible with prepaid carriers including Cricket Wireless, MetroPCS, Total Wireless, Tracfone, and Mint. If you're moving or if you want to switch plans, just change the SIM card and start using a new carrier. Just remove the SIM card from your old phone and insert it into your unlocked phone. Then, follow the activation instructions.
